I begin with a friendly 15-minute phone conversation to gain information about what you do. If you have current readers or customers, I will ask you a few questions about them, too.
Through discussion with you and additional research, I discover your most typical reader. What is their age? Gender? Family status?
I create a list of needs that motivate this person to engage with your work. What do they hope to get from it?
Demographic and psychographic research provides facts such as income, likely residential location, occupation, and educational level.
What is their primary source of information? For instance, do they use the library? Books? T.V.? Social media? Magazines? Are they mainly analog or digital?
